UTokyo FFP

FAQ

  • I am a graduate student at the University of Tokyo. Could I apply for UTokyo FFP while on a leave of absence?

Yes, you can. You can also receive the certificate if you complete the program with a certain level of marks. However, you will not receive the academic credits (two credits) for the course, because you cannot register for a course during a leave of absence.

  • I am a student at another university (or institute of higher education). Could I participate in UTokyo FFP?

We accept few participants as “observers” from other universities (graduate students, postdocs and faculty/staff members). Please note that observers are required to attend all sessions in principle, although official certificates will not be issued. You may also consider taking “Interactive Teaching,” a Coursera course provided by the University of Tokyo, as an alternative to UTokyo FFP.

  • Am I sure to receive a certificate if I attend all sessions of UTokyo FFP?

In order to receive a certificate of completion, you are required to achieve the prescribed grades as mentioned in the syllabus.

  • What is the schedule for the program?

In principle, UTokyo FFP is held twice a year in four courses: two courses at Komaba and Hongo in S Semester and two courses at Hongo in A semester. One course consists of eight classes, which are held every other week, each with two consecutive periods. Please refer to the syllabus for further details.

  • What is the language of instruction?

This program is provided in Japanese. You can submit assignments in English, but please note that group work activities will be conducted in Japanese. We are planning to launch UTokyo FFP in English in AY2022.

  • How many assignments will be given and how much is the workload?

Assignments will be given occasionally. Depending on the type of the assignment, some will require 10 minutes, while others may require one to two hours. Preparation for microteaching session demands the most time. According to the participants’ feedback, the assignment workload is not excessive.
